What is the confirmed Modern Warfare 4 release date?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is officially launching worldwide on Friday, October 23, 2026 [1]. It will arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and the Nintendo Switch 2 [2]. The game is not releasing on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One [2].

If you’re eager to jump into the story, pre-ordering any digital edition unlocks Campaign Early Access, which begins on October 16, 2026 [3]. This lets you start the campaign a full week before the global launch.

Infinity Ward is the lead development studio, with Activision as the publisher [1]. The Nintendo Switch 2 storefront lists the same October 23 launch date [2], while Steam’s storefront date field shows October 22, a US-timezone display quirk rather than a delay [8]. For more on the game, see our complete Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 guide.

When does Campaign Early Access start?

You can jump into the Modern Warfare 4 story a full week early. Campaign Early Access begins on October 16, 2026, ahead of the game’s worldwide launch on October 23, 2026 [5][1]. This perk is available to anyone who pre-orders a digital copy of the game on any platform, whether you choose the Standard or Vault Edition [3].

Campaign Early Access lets you start the story before launch [3]. It follows two main threads: one with Pvt. Park Hyun Jun during North Korea’s invasion of South Korea, and another with Capt. John Price [5].

On top of early campaign access, all pre-orders also include several other digital items [3]. These bonuses include the Hunter Killer Operator Skin—usable immediately in Black Ops 7 and Warzone and available in Modern Warfare 4 at launch [3]. You’ll also get the Gilded Pearl Camo Pack and the Inner Circuit M4 Weapon Blueprint [3]. The blueprint’s appearance even changes by platform, featuring a translucent green 25th-anniversary design on Xbox Series X|S consoles but a standard mil-spec look everywhere else, including the Xbox on PC version [3].

Which platforms is Modern Warfare 4 confirmed for?

Modern Warfare 4 is officially coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 [2]. It will not be released on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One [2].

The Nintendo Switch 2 version is a native build, and Nintendo’s own storefront lists the game with the same October 23 launch date [2]. On the Xbox side, an official store listing states that the game is not included with Xbox Game Pass at launch [6]. The second weekend of the open beta was open to players on all confirmed platforms, including Switch 2 [7].

FAQ

What different editions of Modern Warfare 4 are available?

The game is launching with a Standard Edition and a digital-only Vault Edition [3]. The Standard Edition includes the base game, featuring the Campaign, Multiplayer, and DMZ modes [3]. A physical version of the Standard Edition is also available for console players [3]. The Vault Edition contains everything in the Standard Edition plus several digital bonuses [3]. These extras include the Hostile Alliance Operator Pack (with operators like Price and Ghost), the Special Forces Operator Pack, a five-weapon Signature Weapon Collection, and one season of BlackCell, which includes the Battle Pass, 20 tier skips, and 1,100 CoD Points [3]. If you buy the Standard Edition digitally, a separate Vault Edition Upgrade is also offered [8].

Does Modern Warfare 4 have a Zombies mode?

No, a Zombies mode has not been confirmed for Modern Warfare 4 [9]. The game will launch with three main modes: a single-player Campaign, a full suite of Multiplayer options, and the DMZ extraction mode [9]. The multiplayer component includes 12 core 6v6 maps at launch, along with other modes like Gunfight and Ground War [9]. While you may have seen Activision marketing Zombies content recently, that’s for a different title in the franchise and isn’t part of the Modern Warfare 4 package [9]. However, content from Modern Warfare 4 will integrate with the free-to-play Call of Duty: Warzone shortly after launch [1].
